Matt Lungley is a British singer-songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist and writer from South London, UK.

Matt spends a lot of his time in his studio, producing music and decanting his feelings into songwriting or poetry. His lyrical musings can often be very poignant, often speaking about tales of insomnia, loneliness, women, heartbreak, depression and anxiety.

2018 will see a collection of songs called ‘Night Thoughts’ which is made up of 24 songs, where a song will be released every fortnight. These are songs written during his hours of insomnia, worked on during a somewhat different 9 to 5. There is much for the listener to immerse themselves in, with this collection.

Teaching himself guitar at the age of 14, he found himself drawn to the acoustic guitar playing of Bob Dylan and Neil Young. However it was the music of Elliott Smith that would most come to inspire Matt to become a singer-songwriter, along with the likes of Nick Drake, Jeff Buckley and Jackson C. Frank. At 18, Matt began collecting instruments from wherever he could find them, he subsequently went on to collect, rescue, fix and learn how to play a small menagerie of instruments, which he’s used to write an extensive reservoir of songs.

Beautifully honeyed in either acoustic or full band form, his songs are imbued with intricate sounds which are woven around his unique and melancholic voice. His voice which is often tenderly pure can moments later be low and throaty. His sound often leaves many struggling for comparisons. This is then reinforced by his intricate and striking use of harmonies of highs, lows and everything in-between. While he has a liking for sonorous dropped tunings and wistful chord progressions, he’s no less partial to memorable hooks and catchy riffs.

Having always had a love for the processes of writing and producing music, it’s unsurprising that Matt has other music projects, most notably him being one half of sibling Trip-Hop duo Lungley.
