I'm not entirely sure where this review came from but i stumbled across a cutting of it and thought i'd put it here...

ReNewell - The Martin Newell Tribute CD

As this is a charity album it seems a little mean spirited to do a review which could be critical. So support the release and help Shelter, the homeless charity. Musically this is quite a varied album. It is a tribute to Martin Newell, a low profile songwriter and pop poet for The Independent. The most notable contributor is Dave Gregory, the XTC guitarist, though many will remember punk poet John Cooper Clarke. It is actually quite a high quality release, with at least one track you'll like. The opener Song For Syd Barrett performed by David Henderson lifts some early Floyd riffs, and Before The Hurricane featuring The Volares is quite good too. The last track Wunderbarmaid performed by Tommy's Magic Arse is dreadful though.
