Mai 6 2007, 16h12 por farmolioI was just listening to Martha Reeves for maybe the billionth time in my life. And I have to wonder... why on earth did Diana Ross last so much longer than Martha? Martha is so much more soulful, expressive... just plain better, for lack of a more precise word.
Yet Diana Ross was selling records for decades longer. It just seems like there's some sort of imbalance in the world that must have caused that. It's probably the same imbalance that has left us with Beyonce Knowles instead of someone... I don't know... instead of someone remotely tolerable?
And for you Beyonce fans who are upset at this assessment, consider her recent duet with Shakira, where she was outshown tenfold by someone my fiancee refers to as a "belly-dancing yodeler".
Abr 12 2007, 22h45 por funkyfestSo right here is the latest incarnation of my favorite albums list. For once I am somewhat satisfied with it, atleast there isn't anything I feel like I just threw in to make it to the number. I could easily have gone to 100, but there would be albums I wouldn't honestly feel comfortable putting them in the list.
There are a couple I bought recently, but they're mostly in the latter half. So they may just be there because I'm infatuated with right now (see The Exploding Hearts), but that's okay because I'll probably be editting this list again within a few weeks. The criteria for most of it is how many good songs are on the album, but for the top 20 or so it's more about flow and how much I have listened to the album.
I'm sure there are things I forgot, but please don't tell me what they are, or for that matter what I shouldn't have included because it's my list. I did decide to include live (especially since my number one is a live album) and compilations, but with some caution. …
Fev 26 2007, 5h54 por rtreynorI need to go to sleep, so I'll start this with just one concert, but it was a biggie.
These artists all performed for the Concert for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, September 1995.
I was not very sober that night. Much of this evening is not remembered. We didn't expect our $30 seats (In the nosebleeds, obstructed by speakers and stuff) would be needed by HBO in the last minute, and they put us on the 20-yard line. I was already kinda hammered before we got through the gates at Municipal Stadium. But oh well. I was able to cross off a lot of artists on my "must see" list that night.
Here's who I recall performed:
Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Melissa Etheridge, John Mellencamp, Jon Bon Jovi, Al Green, Pretenders,Johnny Cash, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, John Fogerty,Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, George Clinton & The P-Funk All-Stars, Bruce Springsteen, Natalie Merchant, Jackson Browne, Bruce Hornsby, Bob Dylan, Booker T & The MG's, Sam Moore, Allman Brothers Band, Jackson Browne, Dr. …
