28 Apr 2010, 16:14 by missygp29I went to see Jamie Lidell last night. He's been one of my favourites of the 2000s although, really, that's based entirely on his first album, Multiply, and subsequent gigs of his I went to in late 2006 that were, frankly, spectacular. Oh, and the great remixes/reworkings album we picked up in the Tower Records going out of business sale, called Multiply Additions, which had great live versions, remixes, and a glorious cover of Game of Fools by Mara Carlyle. The first time I saw him was also in Bowery Ballroom; he had a mac on, sang Game of Fools to a stuffed crow that the frankly scary warm up techno guy had been using as a prop, and messed around and twiddled with electronic thingamijigs to make amazing sounds, using only beats and his voice. We then ended up persuading about 16 people to go with us to see him at Webster and he was, frankly, fantastic yet again. Swirling beats, vocals, ad libs, and excellent use of samples (What's the Use over Guilty Conscience remains one of my favourite mash ups ever).

I've been meaning to write about The Arctic Circle for a while and introduce them to you.
I'll start at the beginning. You may have seen me listening to my Chiller Cabinet tag radio, which is as close as I can get to the real thing - a show that started out five years ago on Classic FM (now moved to Chill DAB).
http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/85/1902815.jpg Join the group.
Earlier this year, the producer of the show, DJ Ben Eshmade, started up a new project - The Arctic Circle - http://www.jointhecircle.net - which is a music collective. In their newsletter, they describe themselves as "a community of musicians, composers, artists and video jockeys showcasing this country's legendary, current and future musical talents."
Run on pure love and fresh air, (i.e. no money), The Arctic Circle quickly became a must for the London cognoscenti. Artists on the roster include: Roger Eno (Brian Eno's brother), Rothko, Isan…

Hello there. I recently created a group dedicated to the fine artists of Matthew Herbert’s label Accidental Records, and this here's a heads-up to those who might be interested in joining.
If you're reading this journal in the first place it's probably because you already listen to one or more of the artists I've linked to (all of whom are connected to the label in some way, though not all are currently signed to it), and therefore it’s only logical that you should want to join. So don’t be shy, come and add to our numbers! If you’ve landed here for some other reason (hello friends! hello neighbours!) then come on over anyway, check out the custom radio (it’ll play all the streamable artist connections) and see if you like what you hear.
Well, I won’t blether on any more here… that’s what the forums are for.

17 Feb 2006, 17:33 by bigSEXYhairLast.fm is sooooo fucking slow to update everything...and now, in achievement of a new low, even when it SAYS it updates, it still doesn't actually do so. I've been listening to at least 40 or so songs a day, and yet within the past week, it has barely increased my number of tracks at all (despite "updating" at least three times).
There are new bands I have discovered in the past few weeks which I listen to all the time, and it still thinks I have only listed to, like 5 or 6 tracks of it. Let me again reiterate that is HAS "updated" plenty of times...I am not merely being impatient. It simply isn't recording things, although it does record them as recent tracks..they just never make it into my actual charts (my radio settings ARE set to 'record to profile').
AND I'm a fucking subscriber!!! Get it the hell together, Last.fm!

9 Jan 2006, 04:15 by PassioneerSome things I've been really getting into the last week or two. Some are reflected on this week's chart; some I've been listening to more on my mp3 player.
Camille - I've only heard three songs by her, but they have made me extremely curious about the rest of her work. Because of my obsession with amazing lyrics, I've never ventured outside of the English-speaking category, but her music is just amazing. As far as foreign lyrics go, I've also been getting into Jorane lately. Camille reminds me of Björk in the way she uses her voice as an instrument and with her eclectic vocal styles. However, I find her much more interesting than Björk. Maybe it's only me, but I've tried so many times to like Björk's music, but every time it hasn't left any major impression on me. Now, before I go off on a Björk tangent...
Christine Fellows - I've been meaning to listen to some of her stuff for awhile, but it's relatively hard to find on any filesharing programs. …
