The track is derived from the single Erotica, with additional verses. Many of the song's lyrics consist of passages directly from the book.
The first six seconds of this track are non-music featuring sound effects mimicking the "cracking open" of a book and turning of pages as if one is about to start reading followed by a woman (presumably Madonna) clearing her throat as if in preparation to read out loud. There is then a pause (a full second of silence) and at eight seconds, the music portion of the track begins.
