I've been a great fan of Hawley for a while, but, for whatever reason, never got around to the Longpigs. Found three CD singles at a charity shop today, priced 25 pence each, so I obviously bought them, and they are WONDERFUL.
Calling all Longpigs fans! We can get a concert happening in London if enough people make a non-commital pledge via Detour: https://detour.songkick.com/artists/468946/campaign
Myself and a few school friends have made pledges so join us and help get the show on the road!!
This weekend the Guide described them as Noise Pop, which is pure arse. Journalists hear phrases like that and just throw them around willy-nilly. Genuinely great, overlooked band though, even had good b-sides.
I wish I had been alive when they were around! They were recommended by a few older blokes I know, borrowed The Sun Is Often Out off one of them, and I am genuinely in love with it, absolute perfection! Can't find the second album anywhere though, i'd be interested to hear that :)
criminally underrated, of all the music that filed into my records during the brit pop boom this is one of the few albums that stands on its own still and doesn't sound like a brit pop album. if you haven't had the pleasure the top five up there will convert you
ok who are the people tagging this band? Slowcore? Shoegaze?? Female Vocalists??? LOL...that's a dude who just happens to have an amazing falsetto...Crispin Hunt pleeeeease come back and sing again...sigh.
FWIW I tagged 'em "criminally underrated" and "reunion please" ;)
Awesome band. Lucky enough to have been a Sheffield Hallam student during their heyday and caught many gigs.... also remember drunkenly chatting to them in the Green Room at the Leadmill during my stint there. Awww - and the tunes, great stuff.
Still sounds timeless.
This band were fucking Great..They should do another album..There tunes made Indie in the 90's. I djed the shit out of '' She Said'' still do and people still ask '' What was that you just played'' at the dj booth. Long Pig...Great.
