"Liz Phair announces 25th anniversary Exile in Guyville box set, shares alternate version of “Divorce Song”: She'll also embark on a US tour to play songs from her Girly-Sound tapes live for the first time. [The box set will be available as a 3-CD set or 7-LP set (with added goodies like never-before-seen photos and artwork), and will also be offered in digital formats and on streaming platforms.]" https://consequenceofsound.net/2018/03/liz-phair-announces-25th-anniversary-exile-in-guyville-box-set/ ~ YESSS.
I used to think Johnny Feelgood was about a guy, but now when I hear the lyrics I think cocaine and what her experience was like, "Johnny" being the drug. "Johnny" makes her feel good about herself/moderation/doses large enough to kill/I liked it more and more etc etc... thoughts? Same with Johnny Sunshine, could be about a guy but also could be interpreted as the devastation as a result of a bad addiction(?)
Which reminds me, I remember reading an interview from a couple of years ago saying that she was working on a new album that she was really happy with and she wasn't gonna let anyone else fuck it up. Anyone know anything about this, any new info on another record?
Guyville > Whip-Smart > Space Egg > Funstyle > Somebody's > Liz Phair imo. Whip-Smart is totally underrated. Listen to that album in bed at night with the lights off, its bliss (as is Guyville of course, which is nothing short of a masterpiece)
