15 Aug 2013, 06:40 by momothepirateThe last time I posted one of these was in May of 2008. I thought it would be fun to post another as a comparison. The following list consists of albums I've scrobbled the most in the past 12 months. Unfortunately, the list isn't a perfect representation of what I've listened to for the past year due to the obvious omission of non-computer listening (such as tapes, records, car stereo, etc.) as well as songs that are too short for Last.fm to scrobble.

(born before 1940)
† Bessie Smith (born April 15, 1894, Chattanooga, Tennessee, U.S., died September 26, 1937), sometimes referred to as "The Empress of the Blues," was the most popular female blues singer of the 1920s and 1930s. She is often regarded as one of the greatest singers of her era and, along with Louis Armstrong, a major influence on subsequent jazz vocalists.
† Marlene Dietrich (27 December 1901 – 6 May 1992, Berlin, Germany) was a German-born American actress and singer.Although she still made occasional films in the post-war years, Dietrich spent most of the 1950s to the 1970s touring the world as a successful show performer. In 1999 the American Film Institute named Dietrich the ninth greatest female star of all time.
2 Jun 2012, 13:10 by elementoIt’s 9:20pm on a Friday evening and I’m sitting in an abandoned corner of Beijing Airport’s terminal three. I’m certain that the reasons for abandoning it for most people are the incessant blaring of advertisements from televisions placed every twenty metres along the concourse. I guess it could also be to do with the fact that there are no flights leaving this part of the airport. At least not for now. It’s useful for me, because there’s a handy source of electricity in the floor.
Frequent travellers become hunter/gatherers on long haul flights. In some respects the wide eyed wonder with which we embrace airports with for the first time is attenuated, replaced by the understanding that a certain disconnection of self from the physical world is necessary to carry the sum of one’s parts through the journey. The hunting and gathering comes to the fore because you seek out supplies to keep you vital and aware and nurtured. Things like power outlets on poles, or in floors. …
