Biography
Elizabeth Marie Ferreira (born in April 8th 1980, Massachusetts, United States), most known as "Liz Marie" as stage name, is a local American female singer/songwriter of Portuguese descent. She has performed in English and Portuguese.
Initially, Liz comes from a family of professional musicians. To start, her father is very well known as an International Recording Artist, principally in the United States, but also in some regions of Portugal and in Portuguese-speaking countries and areas around the world. This artist is nobody else than Portuguese-American Superstar Entertainer Jorge Ferreira. Then, she is the younger sister of Alison Ferreira Santos, a female vocalist since many years. She also has a younger brother, Jordan Ferreira, well known in the Boston area as a rock artist, member of Progressive/Fusion Rock band ElixirOnMute. The only one who is not artist is her mother, Yvonne Ferreira. Yvonne is the current Principal/Tour Manager of Jorge Ferreira's record/show production company "Portuguese Music World, LLC" (formerly "Portuguese Music World" in 1997, and "Music World, LLC" from 2012 to 2023). She also worked for the local Portuguese-American medias and co-produced some music videos for her star husband.
In 1996, Liz began to play an important function in the continuation of her father's career, at the young age of 16, writing and composing the 12 songs of her father's album "A Portuguesa É A Mais Linda" (The Portuguese Woman is Most Beautiful). Since, she has written and co-written numerous songs for her father, so becoming the songwriter of a large majority of her father's musical directory.
Liz has a very short active career behind her. She has released one EP only, "Chuva de Beijos" (Rain of Kisses), in 2000, at the age of 20, starting her career as a local Pop/Dance singer this same year. But before that, Liz already had performed with her father on numerous albums and in live concerts as a backing vocalist. She also has teamed up with her sister Alison during the middle of the 90's, when she was a child, both performing and recording Christmas songs.
In 2011, Liz came back in studio to record a song, so she released the famous Willie Nelson's 1961 single "Crazy", also covered by Patsy Cline and LeAnn Rimes, and now by Liz herself. Recorded at her father's home studio City Limit Track in Westport, MA, a music video of this song, produced by local video producer Floriano Cabral, was shot and broadcast in YouTube, showing Liz singing during recording sessions.
In 2017, Liz came back to Ferreira's studio City Limit Track and teamed up with her father to record the famous Bee Gees' song "To Love Somebody", covered by numerous artists worldwide. Featuring Jorge Ferreira, the single was released in September.
In 2020, after long trying months marked by the COVID-19 pandemic in the world, Liz implored God's help by singing His praises for Christmas. However, it was at City Limit Track studios that she performed while recording with her father Leonard Cohen's most famous song "Hallelujah". Liz and Jorge shared lead vocals on each verse and performed harmony vocals on chorus with additional backing vocals. Liz performed her vocal lines in original English and Jorge covered Brazilian female singer Gabriela Rocha's Portuguese adaptation to perform his vocal lines in Portuguese. Jorge Ferreira's cover of "Hallelujah" was released as a digital single on December 29th, four days after Christmas.
Currently, Liz works as a nail technician in her own beauty salon where she specializes in manicures. However, she sometimes continues to write songs for her father whenever he asks for her. There was a time when she worked as a secretary and webmaster for Music World, LLC at the record company headquarters in Dartmouth, MA, but today it's her mother Yvonne who has taken over in this role.
