Biography
Lea-Marie Becker, professionally known as LEA, was born on July 9, 1992, in Kassel, Germany. She is a German singer-songwriter and keyboardist. LEA began her musical journey at a young age, growing up in a household filled with music, as her parent worked as a music therapist. She started taking piano lessons at the age of six and wrote her first songs at the age of eleven. In her teenage years, she gained early recognition by uploading music videos to YouTube under the name Lea-Marie. One of her songs, Wo ist die Liebe hin, garnered significant attention with over 2.7 million views.
LEA studied music and special education in Hannover, where she continued developing her musical career. In 2015, her rendition of Hildegard Knef's So hat alles seinen Sinn was featured on the compilation album Für Hilde, which led to her signing with the record label Four Music. The following year, in 2016, she released her debut album, Vakuum, which explored personal themes, including her first relationship and feelings of displacement.
Her second album, Zwischen meinen Zeilen, released in 2018, showed a shift toward a more social and communal perspective while still maintaining introspective elements. LEA’s distinctive melancholic voice has resonated with listeners through songs that deal with love, friendship, and loneliness, often presented as personal internal dialogues.
LEA’s career saw a breakthrough in 2017 with the release of a remix of her song Wohin willst du?, produced in collaboration with the DJ duo Gestört aber GeiL. The remix reached 11th place on the German singles charts and established her presence in the music industry. In the same year, her single Leiser became a radio hit, earning her a gold certification. Her collaborations continued to drive her success, with her song Immer wenn wir uns sehn, created for the 2018 film Das schönste Mädchen der Welt, gaining widespread recognition. LEA also participated in the seventh season of the popular German TV show Sing meinen Song – Das Tauschkonzert.
After living in Hannover for several years, she moved to Berlin in 2018, where she continues to reside. In September 2019, LEA collaborated with rappers Capital Bra and Samra on the track 110, which topped the German charts, further expanding her influence. LEA's music continues to address issues of gender equality, and she uses her platform to advocate for greater visibility and representation of women in the German music industry.
