While a father’s hands are a crucial instrument in the shaping of his children’s lives, this is even more so with Marvin Munshaw and his son Kenny. Not only did Marvin give his love and support, but also passed the gift of music from his hands to his son’s.

Through hard work and perseverance, Kenny has used this gift to his full advantage, becoming one of the country’s most respected and talented artists. At 17, Kenny penned a song titled Ode to Terry (Fox) which charted nationally. Not only did the song do well, but it was also an early example of the empathy and honesty that would show itself time and time again in Kenny’s future writings.

In 1994, after releasing two singles under a Toronto label which also did well at radio, Kenny released his first full album Human Condition through Duke Street Universal. With the visual aspect of video along with radio Sun Comes Up, Danville Line, Ain’t It Funny and Thunder and Lightening pushed Kenny in plain view of the public eye.

After a successful tour and a glimpse of things to come, Kenny found himself dealing with a broken marriage and jumping whole-heartedly into raising two young children on his own, Kenny put the recording side of his career on hold…….for a while.

While challenging at times, these were in fact some of the most satisfying and rewarding years of Kenny’s life. In 2006, with no regrets, it was time for Kenny to get back to business. With more than enough songs for a new album written during his “break” it was back into the studio. From the pain and frustration in Just as Well, to the acceptance in Let it Go, and finally the freedom and healing in Hold Me, Time Tells All is a collection of thoughts and experiences covering the full spectrum between sadness and joy.

Given that Kenny delves deep into himself and shares some of his most vulnerable and personal moments, after listening to his music the feeling that you already know him is inevitable. With 2008’s CD Short Stories we are given a little insight into the experiences that led to the creation of each and every song with a short note following the lyrics in the album insert. Recorded at Levon Helm Studios in New York, Carlisle Post Audio and Kenny’s home studio, this body of work is well on its way to bringing much deserved recognition and success.

Kenny has many irons in the fire, from producing/recording in his home studio and writing for his next album to the new venture of AKA Music, a record label co-founded by Kenny, Adrian Strong and Asim “Awesome” Awan. You can also watch for Kenny while he is currently touring and promoting Short Stories.
