Yes, it does: Ian Jones (Karnataka founding member/bassist) loves India and spent some time there and fell in love with the area. Subsequently he named the band after it... :-)

Hi. I am just curious as to why the band is named "Karnataka". Does it have any relation to the Indian state of the same name?

The Storm is a masterpiece... Just picked up Panic Room - also a great disc.

There are sound clips up now for most of the back catalogue - spread the word! :-)

Go see them at the Rock Cafe on March 25th. They have a really good support band with them, Apparition. XxX

The Reasoning will be playing plenty more shows this year by the sound of it, so you'll more than likely get another chance to see them soon... ;-) As for Karnataka - their day is a long way from over, I assure you. Go check 'em out, folks, and *then* tell me that I'm wrong...! :-)))

Karnataka were a great live band in their day and I'm rather inclined to agree with Davie UCF, although much the same thing happened to Renaissance, didn't it? I'm sorry I missed Rachel Jones's new band, The Reasoning, when they played at the Tav in January. And I did wonder where AMH had been recently ...

I suppose so Dave but I do hate when bands do that. I always think it would be better to give the band a different name. Its much easier to listen to them and not be judging them in a certain way then.

HI think you'll still be impressed, Davie - much as I'll miss Rachel & Anne-Marie's voices on the new Karnataka material, new recruit Lisa Fury has an incredible voice, too. Judging by the new song they played at their first gig with the new line-up, I don't think you need to worry too much! :-)

I don't know if i'll like the new lineup as much as the original. Too many original members missing for it to retain a certain sound unless it was all written by one guy! Plus the voices!including Anne marie helder! (fanboy)

I started a mailing list for them a few years ago now, which is still active - all the latest news on the new Karnataka line-up and the various spin-off bands incorporating members of the original line-up (like Panic Room, The Reasoning, Chasing The Monsoon etc) always find their way there first.
