Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States (1998 – present)
Tris Katone (born Tristan James Katone) is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer.
Born in Baltimore, MD and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States, Tris began his career in the music industry as a drummer/vocalist playing for many bands throughout the East Coast in the 1980’s and 90’s. After years of sitting behind a drum kit, Katone resurfaced in the music world in 1998 as a solo artist and has released seven self-produced albums, including his 1999 debut album, Committing Suicide, The Next Devil (2000), Plastic Udder (2001), Erotic Crystallization Inertia (2003), Kat O’ Nine Tales (2010), Digital Warlock (2016) and Combination of Sins (2018).
Tris Katone's musical influences are worn well upon his sleeve and his sound is often compared to a twist between the hard-edged Marilyn Manson and the straight forward rock n’ roll tone of T. Rex. At first listen his music is poetic, deep, honest, raw, and nasty. All the things rock n’ roll should be. Katone is noted for playing all instruments on his seven releases as well as earning full writing and production credits. When touring under the name KATONE, a full band compensates for the music while Mr. Katone sings and performs his songs.
KATONE has had touring success throughout the 2000 decade. In late 2007 Tris found himself behind the board producing other bands in which he stated he had a personal interest in. It was during these sessions that he began re-mixing and re-mastering early KATONE tracks, ultimately to be released on iTunes and as special edition physical CDs.
Late summer 2010 brought the first new KATONE record in almost five years. Kat O' Nine Tales was released with a built in rock n' roll statement. Claiming the record to be a departure from earlier concept works, Katone was quick to point out that the new record was a tribute to the music that inspired him to be an artist. Songs like Superstars and Bite The Heart bleed pure rock, while other songs Locked Up and Hidden and Desolate leave a more haunting tone similar to Katone's much earlier release, The Next Devil.
The sixth KATONE album, Digital Warlock, was released October 2016 worldwide. Tris claims that the album concept was inspired in part by people continuously asking him who the musicians are that play on his records. The Digital Warlock is the name he would jokingly give as a faux band that played the music tracks, when actually it is Tris himself playing all of the tracks. The album was originally titled "Songs from The Digital Warlock" but was shortened just prior to the release date to simply Digital Warlock.
KATONE 7 - Combination of Sins, released November 2018, is the first KATONE compilation album and includes 22 remastered favorites from the previous six KATONE releases, in addition to new songs and live tracks. Tris refers to the album as a 20 year anniversary boxed set and claims that "there are always new fans coming along and I think every once in a while it's good to buff up the older tracks and give them a new shine".
