Considered one of the greatest couples of the American movie musical, Judy Garland (1922-1969) and Mickey Rooney (1920-2014) performed together in a series of films in the late 1930's to the early 1940's for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's prestigious film studio. The duo first worked together in the film Thoroughbreds Don't Cry (1937). Two years later, Garland and Rooney showcased their song and dance talents in the well-received Babes in Arms. Their quartet of musicals, including Babes in Arms (1939), as well as Strike Up the Band (1940), Babes on Broadway (1941), and Girl Crazy (1943), all featured a similar plot of teenagers putting on a show for their community.
