Jim began performing music in 1982, when he became a brass player in the 4th grade. He wanted to play the sax like his older cousin, but having rather long arms, and fourth graders tending to be rather short, he was roped into playing trombone. 24 years later, Jim still plays in various brass groups, and local community concert and jazz bands, where he splits time between playing the bass trombone and the baritone.
Jim's love of music composition started in 1986 with the purchase of a used Commodore 64 with the amazing 3-voice FM synthesis SIDPlayer. His musical moniker of Solarno was born around the same time, though the exact origin of the name is lost to the annals of time.
When not playing or writing, or attending performances of fine music, Jim can be found riding a two-wheeled, non-electronic contraption some refer to as a bicycle, or selling said vehicles for the world's largest bicycle manufacturer.
Jim Furey and his roving band of electron infused microprocessors reside in Simi Valley, CA where the quest for the perfect sine wave continues.
