A star-studded collaboration. Kendrick links up with Future, 2018 tour-mate James Blake, and with frequent partner Black Hippy rapper and label mate, Jay Rock. According to TDE, the song is slated to be the first single from Jay Rock’s follow up effort to his 2015 project 90059.
The single is also set to appear on the upcoming official soundtrack for Marvels Black Panther, making this the third song Kendrick has contributed to for the film, alongside Cops on the Rader with Vince Staples and All The Stars with label-mate SZA.
On the track, there are references to the events of the film and the comic. The title especially can be taken to refer to the contest for kingship of Wakanda, whilst Kendrick directly makes reference to the main antagonist and even raps from his perspective.
