1. Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion

This band seems to divide opinion, but each of their last 3 albums have built on a distinctive style, all zigzagging lines, bright colours, harmonious philosophy and percussive fizz. I listened to this in each month of 2009, and every track was my favourite at some point.
2. Alva Noto - Xerrox Vol.2

Carsten Nicolai is a kind of fuzzy ambient King in my mind, lifting his crowned head from his keyboards and computers only long enough to knight Sir Tim Hecker or send Lord Jasper TX on a quest or something. Xerrox Vol.1 was great,Xerrox Vol 2 is greater still, a swelling, swirling cloud of hallucinogenic textures that cuts and cuddles in equal measures. Roll on Vols 3-5.
