It amazes me how Steve Harris has a unique ability to write songs about war that strike a deep chord in a person's conscience. I could make a CD with all of Maiden's awesome anti-war epics. In fact, I probably will!
This song is the perfect embodiment of delayed gratification. That sudden speed-up at 2:43 wouldn't be half as amazing if the song were to start with it. Instead we have the slow-burn build-up, which I can only imagine would be tantalizing in concert. And then of course, that blistering solo. This is one of my all-time favorite Maiden songs because of this.
Love this song, it's been one of my personal favorite Maiden tunes for a while now. I am so glad I got to witness this performed live last year on the North American leg of the Maiden England Tour! It was a beautiful surprise and one of the highlights of the night!! \m/ \m/
We were given backstage party passes from KNAC for this tour at Irvine Meadows because our concert shirts were cool. Free food and drinks plus we got autographs from Nikko, Dave, Bruce and Steve. Testament underlined too. Amazing Night.
