I have not listened to any songs beyond the two they shared before release. Production and so on, as you mentioned, sucks. The songs were quite boring. I hope the album has something better because I quite enjoyed "The Book of Souls".
Senjutsu can benefit from two things. A better mastering job, and a better editor. Cut 20 minutes from this album and it's a classic. The music is very good, but there are some really glaring flaws. The mix isn't even that bad, but the master sounds like it was pushed through a tin can.
...and just in case they've gotten the wax out of their ears even once in a while...they would hear what's going on...but instead they like to hear it through "Ear-Plugs" and complain...and complain....and complain....sooooo boring. When i fire up my " manhigh" Bowers&Wilkes Matrix 803...Senjutsu shatters the walls of my old house...lol ;-)
I absolutely love how they put all their eggs into musically lingering storytelling, great melody passages, and how they manage to slowly build most songs up really well. They've been at their best in slow songs and epics recently, and the quick songs have been the weakest on the newer albums, so I'm glad they are using only their current strengths and manage to do it very very well. Even the heavier parts still work as a part of the more mature whole, like in Days of Future Past. A very strong album! Absolutely love especially Lost in a Lost World and Hell on Earth, for example! The Parchment, Darkest Hour, Senjutsu... the album is full of great, atmospheric longer song!
At first listen I definitely liked Senjutsu more than any other album after Brave New World. But just like those albums grew on me over the years I feel like Senjutsu will need time and do the same. The only post-2000's albums I don't see it surpassing are BNW and AMOLAD. It's definitely better than TBOS and DOD to my ears, probably TFF as well. Bruce sounds good on Senjutsu and overall I'm happy with it. "Darkest Hour" is my personal highlight.
Iron Maiden is officially dead. Senjutsu is overly bloated, slow and has very typical post 2000 maiden riffs. Production is ass too. Too bad Maiden will probably never be able to make a modern album as good as Firepower. Last decent outing was Dance of Death, everything after has been a derivative of DoD that just keeps getting worse.
Despite my dogged piety, no great revelation came.Unnecessarily Senjutsu Album 2021. Nothing new. Long tracks. Boring performance. Better days... past away. Golden era no come back.Goodbye and good night. Curtain falling down...
I was immediately searching the album for fast, aggressive songs but unfortunately found only 4-5 parts within songs that are not aggressive but have those english melodies (e.g. Time machine - 3:05). I always want my idols to give 100% so i thought Senjutsu is gonna be fast and aggressive. It's a bit underpowered and almost romantic, a lot of mellow and "basic" vibing, but better than nothing. Glad a new release has happened!
I like the new album but I don't love it. I've only listened to it twice but nothing really jumps out at me. So far, The Time Machine, Death of the Celts and The Parchment are my favorites, but I'm sure that'll change. Not a bad album, definitely better than The Final Frontier, but not exactly blowing my socks off. And yeah, the production isn't great. You'd think after like 20 albums, this wouldn't even be an issue at this point but I guess not.
