I hope they release a full dynamic range version at some point. Tech. death certainly gets a license for hyper-extreme mastering like this, I grant that more or less to death metal alone...but I'm getting admittedly tired of how brickwalling is just the go-to approach. Harder to actually focus on for long periods of time. The mix is absolutely incredible though, glad to hear the bass guitarist get such a prominent role. Really does a great job supporting the guitars and drums. I also find it interesting how they kept the symphonic parts super dynamic, to make sure people don't just tune out after a few tracks of hyper-loud metal. It's interesting how smashed in volume so many clean mixes like Revenant get. If they end up mastering more dynamically in the future, I think they might downright get called audiophile death metal, given how gorgeous it sounds despite the slammed volume.
You obviously know more about this than I do but I agree with your assessment. The bass comes through beautifully. I wish the guitar was a bit louder at times because it’s so beautifully composed but that’s a minor grievance in an otherwise killer album.
I mean, the album is basically the best example of how to do crystal clear sensory abuse. I won't take that away from them, the intense loudness is very intentional and a fair stylistic choice for extreme metal.
The Path of Apotheosis was nearly impossible to top, for me at least, and then comes the fucking Revenant. It's a perfect package: Great riffs, extremely satisfying drumming, killer and epic vocals, THE PRODUCTION and of course amazing guest artists. They really put their mind and heart to this album and i'm glad how good it turned out.
kataklysm, this isn't the first group on last.fm to share pages with multiple other groups. if you want to scrobble the finnish band as Inferi (FIN) you're welcome to do so. most people are able to share.
The Path of Apotheosis: The band certainly tightened up their sound by taking more time on it than they did on The End Of An Era which they admitted they rushed on. This time the goal was precision and wow! they certainly did exactly that with this new album release! Great stuff! Can't wait for my pre'order! \m/
