John Merrall and Michael Pawluk of Hypnotech 3 have both been active in music for several years - not only in bands but also by publishing fanzines, promoting and booking live music (organizing the ground-breaking Futursonic weekly live electronic music series in Hamilton), and hosting shows at local University radio station CFMU 93.3 FM intermittently over the past fifteen years. Their first CD, "In Tune with the True Distortion", released in February 2002, was a challenging foray into deep ambient space music. Their second CD, "Prescription Electronics", released in February of 2004, progressed into the throwback electronica style of Tangerine Dream.
