You know, I used to not think much about this song because of the wailing about being a teenage whore (it almost sounds satirically funny), but I was listening to it yesterday and it dawned on me how sad it was. It's basically her crying out because she never had acceptance from her mother. Specifically, the lines: "My mother asked me, she said 'Baby, what for?'" and "get out of my house" tell a lot about that. Her mother basically disowned her because she didn't know how to parent her, which is awful. And the way it ends with her wailing, "All the light that you put me through / And I never had a way"... it's really actually quite sad.
