Remember Axl Rose is the same guy who covered a Charles Manson song "Look at Your Game, Girl" and wore a Charles Manson shirt at a concert he was doing. I think he just enjoys stirring the pot and going out of his way to offend us while he sings in his underwear and Madonna skirts. That's my take.
Hey .. Miss_Mahrie The problem is when someone wants to leave this bad energy free doing something that I will not speak here. And c'mon... It is much easier a foreigner suffer racism just because is not native to that for other reasons.
everyone is a little racist. example try to take a nap on a plane with an islamic man in full robes and beard. you will have an eye on him the whole way....it is what it is. fear and lack of understanding can make a good person do or say something uncharacteristic...so in other words SHUT UP & ENJOY THE MUSIC
Are you guys forgetting elton john has always been one of axl's major influences... when he heard Bennie and the Jets he wanted to be a performer. Not to mention Freddie Mercury.. axl's a bit crazy but come on he's anything but dumb, he was just pissed off and wrote a satire which was probably not the best choice but it's a wonderful song with a couple retarded lines chill out.
I haven't listened to this song in like 5 years. I forgot how incredibly offensive it is. Had to laugh out loud though at the sheer absurdity of the line about Mini Iran and faggots spreading disease. If this was intended as a satire of ignoramuses, it's hilarious. If not, still hilarious, just unintentionally so. Particularly since he doesn't even identify himself as one of the radicals or racists.
And there's nothing philosophical or "deep" about this song. Axl said in numerous interviews that he wrote it because he was basically pissed off at some black guys that tried to rob him and at other minorities and was basically venting his frustration. People are too pussy to admit that they are racist because they don't want to be associated with certain types of people. But guess what? if you have a fucked up mindset- you have a fucked up mindset, don't try to sugarcoat it. Axl was just another dirty stereotypical blue collar racist that got lucky and just so happen to break big. Just because he was a big rock star doesn't mean that he can't be hateful or have hateful views. It's beyond my comprehension how any human being can dislike an entire group of people based off of skin color or hair texture and those reasons alone. That concept to me is absolutely mind-boggling. Racism is a mental illness and if you tolerate it, your mindset is more in line with one than you'd like to admit
Awful song. Awful piece of shit of a person Axl Rose is. I find it even more pathetic that his band members (particularly Slash) didn't have enough balls to tell this egotistical cunt- "NO! This song will not be released by the band." What a bunch of spineless assholes. Guns N Roses were talented, but will be forever ignored by me and hopefully many others. Hate music is never acceptable. And anyone who gives this song a pass is fucking pathetic too.
Until you pack your shit up from the middle of the USA and land at the bus station in Los Angeles, don't whine about the lyrics. The experience can be overwhelming. This song is perfect for GnR. They don't give a fu$% what you think nor should they. In the immortal words of Roger from Oz "Who the fu*# are you"?
Well said MegaDave. I don't agree with the 'face value' of the lyrics here at all. What I don't do is make excuses about context or meaning to justify why I listen to it. If you like an artist enough, you have to take the rough with the smooth. It's the same thing with Eminem's homophobic lyrics, where people say "what he means to say is..." Fuck that, if you disagree with the lyrics, you just have to choose whether you want to continue listening to that artist or not, rather than some bible-type interpretation.
lol I wouldnt go as far as to call this song "beautiful"... but its an acoustic song axl wrote all by himself and its emotionally fueled. I'm part black and if I hitchhiked out to Cali or wherever he went and all I saw was black people coming up to me trying to get me to get my wallet to buy a fake gold chain, i'd be thinking the n-word in my head too. he "attacks" the 3 most attacked groups in US history ("niggers, immigrants and faggots") and he was a kid at the time. most small town young whiteboys probably shared his views. doesn't make them not fucked up, but the people who acted as if he was some racist scum cuz of him using the word need to rethink it. Slash is also half black too, correct?
