FTHC might be his best record yet - Punches is just such a banger. Can't wait for April now, live shows will be so energetic again! <3

I really enjoy it, wasn't that big on his last two albums but this one really brings back all I used to love about Frank!

I like what he did with Be More Kind. It wasn't his best by any means, but shows he can do way more than what he's done over te albums that came before, musically. No Man's Land I thoroughly enjoy for its folky feel that really takes me back to the early days, and the podcast that came with it really takes it to another level, in my opinion! I love the fact you can learn something from it. Now, FTHC...it's straight up punk and I love it so much! So many bangers on this album. Man, it's great. I can't wait to hear it live!

Don't get me wrong, I also liked the last two albums. In my opinion, he doesn't have a bad album or anything. It's just that they somehow didn't click that much for me when they came out, maybe I was in the wrong mood or mindset at that time. It's just that this new one just really caught me off guard and straight up punched me in the face. I'm also so excited to be back at shows and see this live, let's hope everything will work out! :)

I have to admit, I got into Frank Turner from the NOFX/Frank Turner split, which I thought was fantastic, both sides. So I can't say I am super qualified to rate his albums. I'm not into a lot of folky stuff typically, but am a big fan of punk, hardcore, post-hardcore, thrash, death metal, etc, and am able to enjoy those elements that obviously influential in Frank's catalog. I find FTHC to have a ton of vibrant energy. Every song is well written, timing, rhythm, hooks, and excellent story-telling (and totally relatable) lyrics. It's really great piece of music that I am fully enjoying. Every year, there is an album outside of my normal scope of listening that really blows me away, and FTHC is it for 2022.

Can't get over the fact how good this guy is - he just played a solo set at a 2000 Trees camp after he headlined the mainstage and it might have been another highlight for me... what a guy....

I'm here! And to keep you updated, I've seen an interview in a school where Frank said the experimental album about important women of history will be released sometime later this year and will feature a different version of Silent Key. It's a very nice and long interview on youtube, pretty recent. You should look it up.

He's like a "Don't you get mad at your parents when they tell you to clean your room?" guy, but he actually sings about serious stuff, most of the time on his latest record at least...

Well, his four latest albums all carry a theme. His latest is about helping each other, being more kind, as the title suggests. Positive Songs For Negative People deals with overcoming your problems, depression and the like. This album really helped me during mine, so it's kind of a special thing for me. Tapedeck Heart is directed at heartbreak and England Keep My Bones is like an ode to England. There are a lot of serious songs in his catalogue, as he is, in my opinion, a great lyricist. Could you point out some examples of why you called it kids music? Not trying to start a fight or something here, everyone has his own opinion and a right to that, I'm just curious, haha.

I just think it sounds like music for children, like, it's not for me, Barry Louis Polisar is a singer songwriter, he made folk music for kids, he has some great songs, but you can't compare his music to Dylan. And I think Turners music sound more like something by Barry Louis Polisar and not so musch like something by Dylan. Well I don't mean the sound of course, his sound is more like Jukebox The Ghost or The Avett Brothers. That doesn't mean that it's bad, I like those bands! But it's to happy and simple, too superficially. I feel to grow up to listen to this, I don't know how to explain it in any other way...

I think it's pretty funny that in Frank Turners Shoutbox all recent comments are from you two guys (CoenVen & 1000julys) is it passion, is it respect? I dunno, but I liked your thoughts on Frank Turners music. Thanks for brightening my day.

Haha, that's nice to hear! I'm just an idiot, I love everything he has done and is doing and enjoy talking about music a lot. As soon as something new gets released I want to know people's opinions about it and discuss the release. Music is (cliché incoming) a very important part of my life. I went through a depression the last year or so and one of the things that kept me going was (and still is) music. Especially Frank's. The emotions and messages he puts in his songs really helps me out a lot and I can relate to it very much, PSFNP the most that period. So yeah.

I just cite you here. "Music is (cliché incoming) a very important part of my life", it's the same for me. But I'm kinda coming from a different direction. My favourite songs of Frank are those that justify being different. "Punk is for the kids who never fit in with the rest" (Four simple words is my favourite song) and there more lines describing what I want to say to those provoking (doesn't matter if I am the target or somebody else).

Yes, this is why I'm enjoying it. This directness, the feeling of listening to an earnest story in addition to the simple joy of a genre I like, helps me rest in the evening (sorry for the phrasing, I just don't know how to describe it right).

I love "Be More Kind", it's fitting my vision of a relationship. Not forcing someone to be kind, just trying to make each others feel safe. Thus showing each other, that you don't need more appreciation and it's okay to have/make mistakes. Let the others run, let the others lose themselves in their modern hectic ideologies... that's what I think.

I gotta admit. When Frank said Be More Kind would be something 'drastically different', I got a bit nervous. I've been loving every single song so far, though. The cover art is so beautiful, too! I really like the sketchy style it has. Blackout is fucking awesome, it sounds like it will be a real treat to hear this live. The guitar work, synths, clapping... God, I love it. Might be my favorite track from the new album so far. I hope they're going to play with the lighting when they perform this one live. The video is, though it's a 'band performs song while we record it' - clip, really cool, too.

The 4 songs i've heard from Be More Kind are a bit of a mixed bag. '1933' and 'Be More Kind' are great. 'There she is' is a plesent song but it's just a bit lightweight lyrically. 'Blackout' is a curious case as it's a good song. but sounds a bit like a deliberate attempt at writing a student friendly hit single.

Totally get what you mean and agree. Like Frank said in the newsletter, it could be the first song you can get away with playing in public. I like it a lot, though. The guitars in the intro are catchy from the get go and when frank joins in around the middle, I fucking love it. Though I had mixed feelings about the lyrics in the beginning of the song I have to say, I am very pleased with them. Especially the hospital part. And the synths. Oh man, do I love them. I hope they can deliver it live. But he himself said, a lot of fans will be displeased with us doing something totally different. So I'm not surprised with you being unsure about it. I was the same in the beginning, it sounds nothing like the previous albums haha. It does have that typical 'feel' to it that his music has, though, in my opinion. You should give it a few more spins! The more I hear it the more I like it. Maybe you will, too! :)

I added three new photo's! And what do you think about the studio version of 1933? The more I listen it, the better it gets. I'm really curious about the rest of Be More Kind, as this sounds really different from his easier work and also different from There She Is. And fuck yeah, two shows in the Netherlands this year! I can't wait! I'm definitely going!

I like Songbook way more than I thought I would. The new versions of the songs are very interesting approaches and especially Polaroid Picture, which really is the standout track in my opinion, seems to work a lot better this way. The climatic moment in I Am Dissappeared is also lovely. What do you guys think about it?

While I agree with you, I think a lot of things stand out. Like I mentioned before, I am in love with this version of Polaroid Picture. The stripped down sound of it reminds me of Frank from the early days, to which I'd love him to return for an album or two (or at least keep up the acoustic versions on disc two of the albums he's done). The version of the way I tend to be is also very interesting, remembering the stuff he told about recording tape deck heart. And while I like the different takes on I am Dissappeared in the songbook version, combined it comes off a little... Weird. Long live the queen and photosynthesis I do like a lot though. They feel like an updated version of the songs, more alike with the live versions. He also stated that Lex wasn't very sure about the folk thing he's been doing and he thought she'd like this version more. I really like how open he still is about that kind of things.

Wouldn't mind a song about their cat if it'd be anything like the Weakerthan's Virtute songs, which Frank loves.

The things written in https://www.google.nl/amp/amp.timeinc.net/nme/news/music/frank-turner-songbook-album-2150563%3fsource=dam really make me look forward to Songbook. I like There She Is. The change feels like the same one Bruce Springsteen went through and he is one of my absolute favourite artists so I am looking forward to the 2018 album :) also really curio for the Songbook editions of older songs. Btw, am I the only one who already felt a change coming because of the album cover of PSFNP and now the one for Songbook ?

I'm listening to Be More Kind right now. Sounds really nice! I am wondering if the new album will be as elecric as PSFNP is. If it is, I have no problem with that, I fucking love the record. But I hope it comes with a solo version of the songs, as that one did. I love Frank solo so damn much!

phew. He said to expect some kind of The Prodigy sound out of it. Not sure what to think about it, if he's just mindfucking everyone or not. He's never really doing 100% the same like he did before,... so I'll just go with the flow and hope for the best :D I love FT solo too, but the band is always so much more fun to watch on stage!!

Say what, now? Frank with a sound similar to The Prodigy..? I can't see that happening, but we'll see, haha. He hasn't made a bad album yet, so I have faith in him, whatever he does! And I have to agree to that, though the acoustic set with only Matt and Frank was a experience like no other!

Hey! It's a long shot but anyone here has spare ticket to sell for Friday night's ticket for Lost Evenings? Flying in from San Francisco in time for the festival, but of course missed the chance to buy the ticket for that first night.. not sure how is the box office situation at Roundhouse or if even possible to get the ticket at the door. It'll be cool if I can connect with other fans over the pond! Thanks, FT rules!!!!
