Fonemi (Vito Santoro) was born and raised in Brindisi, an old sea town known as the "East Door" for its maritime connection to eastern world. Despite his cultural roots, as a child he was attracted from electronic sounds, overwhelmed at eight years when he heard the Kraftwerk for the first time. He was fascinated by those unnatural and transversal sounds, sharped rhythms in opposite to the synthetic textures. He started playing the synthesizer, and the first he had was a self-built model. During University studies he approached the writing, even in this branch his gaze was directed to science fiction and futuristic themes (Philip Dick and Asimov his favorites). Often he thought his musical compositions as the soundtracks of the stories he wrote. Some years ago he decided to set up an electronic music project with the alias "Fonemi" that would explore the ambient lands, a drone music with hinted rhythmic, or which merge them into the textures, a project that joins the investigate of the dark side of the human being.
"Atene" is a work that contains nine tracks composed with the idea to create a homogeneous musical structure, an ethereal and timeless sound. This musical composition is a tribute to Athens, a millenarian city full of charm, cradle of a cultured civilization that has taught over the centuries.
