On the Big Island of Hawaii, the music scene is about as barren as the lava fields that comprise the majority of the land mass. For the most part, unless you play reggae or Hawaiian music, your chances of being heard are slim. So it is only with truly exceptional talent and relentless determination that Explore has emerged from obscurity to make themselves heard.
In a rural Hawaii town, brothers Kamran and Alexei Samimi (bass and guitar) grew up with super-close childhood friend Tyler Wolff (drums). In high school Alexei started Vega– an eclectic blend of metal, pop, jazz, latin, and arabian sounds. Soon Tyler joined to sing for them and later Waiaka, to play bass. After several changes Vega settled with Alexei and Waiaka playing guitars switching off on lead and rhythm, Kamran on bass, Tyler on vocals, and two friends, the twins Chris and Joe, on keys and drums.
THE BAND VEGA, CIRCA 2003
Dispite all its promise, Vega broke up in 2005 due to personal differences. Almost instantly afterwards, the guys you know formed "Explore"– a band inspired by the euphoric progressive rock of the 70s and the kinetic dance-rock of today. Tyler pursued his passion and played drums, and they connected with a professional recording solo-artist from Japan, Aly Ishikuni. With praise and recognition from the local music scene and beyond, Explore's dynamic, powerful riffs, catchy hooks, and parts, both technical and trancelike, are finding their way to more and more ears as their audience grows.
