Biography
Conceived on a beach in Portugal in the summer of 2018 by the art curator Andi Soós (Virgo sun) and filmmaker Noémi Varga (Taurus sun), Exotic Girlfriend is one of the most interesting bands to recently hit the music scene of Budapest. The catchy lo-fi sound and the VHS aesthetics of their videos are brought to another level by the immensely fun and prickly song lyrics, which speak of the troubles and pleasures of dating as an Eastern European girl, the problems of awkward birth chart placements, and the annoyance at the assumption that artsy girls like Wes Anderson. Even more than that, the charm of Exotic Girlfriend lies in their seemingly effortless ability to pack together joys and sorrows in explosively appealing songs, which are both silly and playful, while simultaneously (self-)ironic and thoughtful.
