Elsa Hewitt is a producer and songwriter with an intuitive and artistic approach to creating song-worlds that reflect the subtle poetry of life.
Writing and recording from a young age as a critical instrument of self-expression, her musical impulse is charged, organic and deftly offbeat.
Originally a guitarist and lyricist playing both solo and in bands before moving onto exploring electronics, Hewitt samples herself, her self-made sounds and her surroundings.
Her songwriting weaves together separate experiences linked by a certain essence, inspired by moments of connection and knowingness that glisten from within the many layers of the human experience.
Hewitt's relationship to music-making has always been of an intimate, healing and mysterious nature, with her work tending to speak about the inner process, illustrated by images that capture the elusive beauty of the journey.
In 2016, she won the Lynsey de Paul Prize and entered Gilles Peterson’s Future Bubblers. Since then she has released seven albums on her own imprint ERH, with two of those being reissued on vinyl by Tompkins Square and Lobster theremin, one single on Saffron Records, as well as delivering many remixes and several commissioned projects.
