In January 2017, Ed Sheeran released “Shape Of You” in tandem with “Castle On The Hill.” The two songs are the first releases from his third album, ÷ (Divide), following in the mathematical footsteps of his + (Plus) and x (Multiply) albums.
Sonically, “Shape Of You” starts out with a bouncy vibe that continues throughout via Ed’s familiar loop pedal. Lyrically, Ed sings about meeting someone at a bar and eventually falling in love with her and her body over time.
Sheeran had teased the song through a tweet that he had posted on January 5, 2017. The video had a colon that would then merge into a human body, which also can signify the meaning behind the song.
