Fri 3 Dec – The Frames, Duke Special
Zoals al eventjes aangekondigd kan ik het natuurlijk niet laten een bericht te schrijven over hét beste concert tot nu toe.

Voor het geval je denkt, oh je bent dus al bij meerdere “The Frames” concerten geweest, kan ik dat gelijk ontkrachten. Nee, dit is mijn eerste “The Frames” concert. En tot nu toe kan geen enkele artiest daar aan tippen. Echt een aanrader. En zodra ze weer naar nederland (of in de buurt) komen, wil ik ook zeker heen.

De setlist van “The Frames” bestond uit maar liefst 20 nummers plus nog een paar stukjes van andere nummers. En natuurlijk het geweldige nummer “Boobies”, tja daaraan kan natuurlijk niks tippen.

Tja, wat ik anders dan zeggen dan dat dit concert geweldig was.

Maar ok, ik hou op met opscheppen. Laten we eens kijken wat ze nou echt gedaan hebben.

Het concert begon met een opzich wel goed opteden van Duke Special. …

Sat 16 Oct – The Magic Numbers, Duke Special
Gisteravond is maar weer eens bewezen dat je het beste geen hoge verwachtingen kan hebben. Een concert wordt er zo veel beter van. Waarom had ik slechte verwachtingen? Omdat de live liedjes van The Magic Numbers op hun nieuwste album The Runaway niet al te best zijn. Daarnaast zijn The Magic Numbers op hun albums doorgaans erg zoet en lief. Weinig poespas, mierzoete liedjes over liefde, maar live worden het pure rockballads. En ze maakten van paradiso weer een echte poptempel met hun optreden.

Vooraf speelde Duke Special in zijn eentje een half gevulde Paradiso warm. Helaas kwam ik pas tegen het einde van zijn voorprogramma binnen, want het kleine mannetje heeft toch een heerlijke stem en mooie liedjes. Zijn uiterlijk is misschien vreemd, zijn performance vervreemdend, maar ik vond het prachtig. Wat helemaal leuk was, dat hij zelf zijn albums en spullen verkocht. Even kunnen spreken met hem, zijn tweede album gekocht en een handtekening gescoord. …
