With fifteen years proven success as a studio & live sound engineer and an ever-growing client list, Dr. Doug Bielmeier has worked as a staff & freelance engineer in Washington, DC and Nashville, TN. Currently, Doug is an associate professor at Northeastern in Boston MA and a freelance engineer at Noisy Buffalo Productions, specializing in indie and start-up artists. Doug earned a dual-Bachelor’s degree in Sound Recording Technology and Music Composition from the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford and a Masters in Music and Computer Composition from Bowling Green State University where he composed electronic music in mediums that include stereo and multi-channel tape, video, and live instrument with computer. These works were performed at new music festivals nationally as well as at gallery performances in London and the U.K. Currently, Doug is experimenting with a “windowing” technique, which manipulates found sounds to create expansive soundscapes for film and sound installations. After graduation, Doug moved to the Washington, DC area. For seven years, Doug was a Staff Engineer at District Entertainment Studios and an honored faculty member at the Art Institute of Washington, all while completing his doctorate in education. Doug's live sound work included working at the Lincoln Theater and sound reinforcement for Vice President Joe Biden. Building on his recording experience, Doug moved to Nashville, TN where he grew his client list by working with indie and start-up artists. In Indianapolis Doug recorded local Modern classical and electronic artists. Doug was the designer & studio manager of the C.L.E.A.R. Lab recording studio at the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology, which is composed of a PhantomFocus MixRoom™ featuring the new PFS 3200 Ultra High Definition - Precision Monitoring Instruments with beryllium tweeters and the THUD™ - Pistonic Chamber-Damped Subwoofer System. As a researcher, Doug explores the relationship between audio education and the industry, DIY circuit building for self-directed instructional methods, & high resolution/multichannel recording via the internet. Doug has presented his findings at conferences nationally.
