Tender and floaty melodies, painting-like soundscapes and fulminating drums - are the ways that dream-pop artist Dino Mansik’s debut album, ’<3’, uses to take you to the place you have never been before. May there be dancing with snowballs or even surfing on the tectonic plates, one thing that is for sure is that dreams will come true.
Dino Mansik, musically influenced by Sigur Rós, Múm and Mew, was founded at the exact moment in 2005 when Mikko M. Koskinen (The Friend, Yournalist) discovered the chords for the first song. ‘Secret view at the Vivia Aquarium’ and rest of the songs were recorded already in 2005 and the last sounds for this album consisting of both vocal and instrumental tracks were recorded a year later.
”These songs were almost forgotten. When I started making new material in the spring of 2009 I listened to the songs and I realized that these songs shouldn’t be left in to the depths of my harddrives” - Mikko
One of the themes on the album is the fear of being left alone – which can sound melancholy. Things are being checked out in a positive light on the album. Though occasionally naive, like in the epic Time for Shadowplay in which after losing a loved one you are not left all alone – there is still your shadow to keep you company. There’s a story behind every song.
“First you’re in love at the backseat of a car followed by quarrels in the park and getting into different kinds of accidents, but in the end, however, one will manage and carry on. Love is, in a way or another, the conjunctive force of all these songs, this must be because of me being extremely in love at the
time of making these songs” -Mikko
’♥ ’ will be released in a limited CD-edition only 1.10.2009. Album is downloadable for free from www.dinomansik.com.
