Demi Lovato confirmed "You Don't Do It For Me Anymore" by releasing the incomplete tracklist along with the album pre-order and the release of the title track. On September 8, 2017, she released the song as a promo single. Although the ballad can be interpreted as a breakup song, Demi said that to her the lyrics cover a topic she has been very vocal about it after recovery: drugs and alcohol. As explained in an interview with Next Radio, Demi is breaking up with her old self, her addiction doesn’t do it to her anymore.
Demi: "Everyone relates to this song differently, and that's the beauty of music. You're allowed to connect with a song in the way that you choose. For some people this song is about the end of a relationship, but for me, it's a goodbye letter to my old self and some of my destructive behaviors. So it's deeply personal.
