I don't listen much to Covenant these days (although my musical taste goes up and down and bands like Covenant still need attention when they release something new every 100th year), but The Blinding Dark sounds overall better than the last album (apart from Last Dance). They will never top their 1994-2000 era but this sounds less inconsistent than what I'm used to during the last decade and a half.
I think it is worth mentioning as well 4 of the 11 songs are instrumental. 3 songs were given to us before the album as singles. And the bonus edition with a second disc is also all instrumental. So taken as whole one can argue this new album is more an EP with very few actual new songs with lyrics. This is no Sequencer as most songs have no dark infectious beat. Just informing and venting on what I was really hoping for. I am glad the album produced 2 fantastic songs though... but it could have been so much more...
Morning Star and the single edit of Sound Mirrors are fantastic. The slightly different album version of Sound Mirrors and all other songs on disc one are completely forgettable to me. Not quite the second coming of Sequencer I was hoping for, but two good songs by this band currently is satisfying enough for me.
I like Blinding Dark and I love Dies Irae, but almost half of the album are instrumentals and interludes, which leaves only 6 proper songs, 3 of which were released as singles... So it does feel more like an EP.
Finally, Covenant releases a good song. I can feel the dark emotional energy in Sound Mirrors that I have not felt since Northern Light. Please please please have more songs like this on the forthcoming album!!! I have not been a fan of the past two albums at all, though, Lightbringer was decent.
"The work on the new album is coming to an end. Exhausted but happy we are extremely proud and looking forward to present the new material. A bit different and more moody than our last albums, we hope The Blinding Dark will take us all to new places."
I can't wait for this.
So who else has their last.fm profile header changed to Covenant's foreheads lately? Just like the band page? I went through their profile images, and although one image looks close, none seem to match exactly. The header based on their #1 image was awesome!
Yeah, @Chrilu, I came for some "electro shit" and discovered not bad industrial/black metal band, nice. Both are good, but Covenant is much better than The Kovenant imho, I just prefer traditional stuff.
