ok, so by no means would i ever try to discredit a band i've loved for over 10 years or anything, and not to get on my Chris Ott shit, but... i wonder if we'll ever acknowledge Engine Down for essentially giving Circa Survive their blueprint. I mean, you listen to a song like "Songbird" by Engine Down and it sounds like it could fit right in Circa Survive's catalog. and that was released in 2002, a year before Anthony Green released that EP with Saosin. Obviously, Circa Survive is a much more successful band than Engine Down, but Engine Down deserves the amount of credit that, say, shoegaze bands deserve for turning Title Fight and Turnover into twinkly bands, or like...Mewithoutyou or Listener deserve for birthing La Dispute. you know, credit where credit is due and all that.
I started listening to these guys with Blue Sky Noise and I adore that record. Violent Waves was also a pretty good album, and I don't care what anyone else might say. All their stuff, old and new, is fucking fantastic!
I don't get the consensus on Juturna either. Yes, it was their first album, but the stuff they've come out with since just make that album look so lack-luster. It's hard for me to even listen to it anymore.
I don't really get the apparent consensus that Juturna is their magnum opus. Perhaps I lack the nostalgia as the first album I listened to was Violent Waves, but their first couple of albums sound far less mature and developed to me.
