ChinYi was created in Granada, Spain, by Pablo Medina who released the first demo Chi in 2004 with a widespread underground acclaim. In march 2009 the band grew up and now the line-up includes Francis Mas on drums, Enrique Castillo (Las barbas indómitas) on keyboards and Oscar Pérez on bass and guitar.
ChinYi’s style is dark and gloomy at once dramatic and emotional, his sound is deliriously and sardonically frolicking with rock, cabaret, punk, electronics and experimental music.
Two more demos Ju (2005) and Mei (2007) and his first LP Tai – all self-produced by Chin Yi at his home studio – made his presence possible at one of the most prestigious music contests in Spain, Proyecto Demo 2010 – which they won – run by Benicàssim International Music Festival (FIB), Spain’s national public radio service RNE3 and Spanish Public Televisión TVE.
They won the 1st prize in the Andalusian Pop Rock Tour 2009 contest celebrated at Monkey Week Festival.
Their work has been remarked by Spanish musical media such as “Mondosonoro” or “RN3” (Spanish musical radio station).
