31 Dic 2009, 15:03 de itravelSo the 00's wasn't generally a great decade for music. Yes, the music industry complains about the lack of CD sales, but honestly, that is due to the fugacious nature of music the past several years. The most popular tracks have more often than not, been about the immediate sales of singles. With iTunes coming to fruition in this decade, it saw the rise of those with little pocket money (and sometimes little music taste either) deciding what the 'top tracks' are. However, with the internet becoming a big source for more independent new music, this saw the rise of several great bands. Call this the 2000's, or the Naught'ies, or whatever you will, but hidden amongst most of the rubbish out there were some brilliant music groups that came into existence, and established themselves well in the past 10 years. Some of the following bands had EP's out previously, but this list is from album releases beginning in 2000. You may agree, or disagree, though more often than not I tend to disagree with most countdowns. …

Until you get hit by a bus and become crippled for the rest of your life you'll never get that.

8 Ago 2006, 23:05 de teebeeThis week (only one day late - an improvement) is Broken Social Scene's week.
Before anything else, I have to recommend the song: Anthems for a Seventeen Year-Old Girl because it's an absolute tune. The brain likes repeating patterns, which probably explains why I love this so much...
The above song is from the album You Forgot It In People which is pretty solid. Mainly electronica-indie style stuff, I think they're a rag-tag collection of tonnes of Canadian artists or something like that.
Their self titled album Broken Social Scene is also really good (not sure which I prefer). The other one I have is Beehives, which I suspect is a bit of a delicacy. I say that because some people will no doubt be put off by two tracks: one of which lasts 29 minutes 33 seconds, and the other 38 mins and 56 secs. They're a bit long, even for me.
The songs which I'd recommend are the following:
Ibi Dreams of Pavement (A Better Day)
Our Faces Split the Coast In Half
4 Mar 2006, 6:02 de lilyyoubebeing a girl myself, i should be tarred and feathered, i know.
but it's true.
however, this summer i heard of a band called The Like, and with the same mentality as always... "yeah, probably just another The Donnas knockoff..." i simply passed them by.
but this winter i decided to look into them further. who were these chicks? why were they repeatedly showing up in NYLON magazine? and who was their stylist?
the cool part about these girls is that they have no stylist. they have no one writing their songs. there are no stand-in guitar players. these girls just managed to both be cute AND rock it really well.
so! in the spirit of my discovery, i suggest you check them out too. they're on tour with Kings of Leon, believe it or not, a very respectable and good rock band. so. open up your mind and look 'em up.
while you're at it, please listen to these five very good and each very different songs: (ignore my ramblings if your attention span doesn't last long enough)
