i don’t think i will ever fully be able to comprehend the juggernaut of a year that 2024 was for music, worldwide. the global music industry saw a rise of over $20 billion for the first time in history last year, and it was by and large a result of streaming returns made from many users renewing subscriptions with streaming services last year. even though i cannot directly confirm this, i sort of like to headcanon that part of the reason is that top 40 music was just so infectious in 2024 that the general public couldn’t help but choose to listen to it from home. to imagine that birds of a feather, espresso, a bar song (tipsy), not like us and luther came out in the same year is absolutely nuts!
