A pioneer of the steel guitar in New Zealand.
Born William Jeffs in Nuku'alofa, Tonga, he went to the War in Italy in 1944 and upon his return to New Zealand he started his music career again as "Bill Sevesi and His Islanders" at the Orange Ballroom in Newton Road, Auckland.
He made his first recording in 1949 with the country singer Tex Morton and his band played on other people's records under numerous pseudonyms.
