The Avon and Somerset Constabulary Male Voice Choir was formed in 1974 following the amalgamation of the Bath and Somerset, Bristol and the South Gloucester part of the Gloucestershire Constabulary
It took 18 months of planning, a fair amount of effort and some welcome support from local businesses and individuals but it all culminated in a wonderful concert at Wells Cathedral on Saturday 28th April. With all of the main seating area sold out, a friendly audience were treated to the wonderful accoustics in the Cathedral and the harmonies created by a large male voice choir.
We were celebrating our 40 years of existence and for this concert we were joined by the police choirs from Dorset, Glocestershire and Hampshire. With only the afternoon of rehearsal to bring the choirs together, the evening performance was very polished and we thank the other choirs for their efforts and their agreement to join us. We really appreciated their company.
We must thank Alison Howell, our MD, who pulled it all together on the day, and also Julie Payne and Gemma Leach our accompanists, who provided faultless support to us all. Peter Jones filled in some wonderful solos and gets better each time!
Robin Hobbs is our compere for many of our concerts. He compered this one and has to be thanked for his very professional presentation. Thanks to all those who helped in any way. There are many of you so you will have to be content to know that your efforts are known and that we are grateful. The day would have been impossible without you!
