I've had a few listens and found the new album to be quite disappointing (comparatively speaking, I have very high standards for Tobi). It's decent but there's very few stand out songs. Many of the guest appearances are unremarkable (Kiske kills it of course, Tate sounds quite good on the ballad, Candice is enchanting, Petrozza is awesome but just makes me want to turn it off and put Kreator on instead). I thought Ghostlights was an incredible return to form after the three albums before, but sadly this doesn't stand up to that. Hope the album grows on me in time.
Aside from hearing The Metal Opera a couple of times over the years, I'm considering Moonglow my proper introduction to Avantasia and I am blown away. Very much looking forward to working my way through the rest of their music.
I read Tobi has some new studio, but Paeth still produced Moonglow, so I don't know what exactly the arrangements are. But Moonglow sounds 1000% better than Ghostlights and infinitely better than the terrible Mystery Of Time record.
Well, to be honest, I find Moonglow pretty dull and uninspired. I thought: "If the album was a person, it would suffer from narcolepsy." But I've read your comments elsewhere, and I somehow trust your judgement. So it's your "fault" that I give Moonlight another try. :P
The Metal Opera, The Scarecrow, Angel Of Babylon and The Wicked Symphony just the first listening you realize are great and not average 😘
And different of you, I can appreciate covers by Avantasia and Edguy like Rock Me Amadeus.
The songs are dull for me and it doesn't make me wish to listen to it.
if I don't wish to listen something and I don't get excited it's average for me and normally, I don't feel like this about an album.
Music needs to make me excited.
it's just my personal opinion, don't be mad about.
Maybe I might change my mind, when Age of the Joker by Edguy was released I didn't enjoy but I had changed my mind.
Seeing this band live with Sammet, Kiske, Ronnie Atkins, Jorn, and others may have been the greatest musical experience of my life. At least come back to New York again since that's a doable trip for me.
This band would be way better without Michael Kiske - everyone loves him, but his voice is such an unbelievably annoying noise in my ears - despite him being a good singer; he destroys almost every song (except Ghostlights, I'm okay with this one).
He actually is a good singer. If not for his moaning and squealing and him being an arrogant prick he might be okay as well. He wasn't the one who fucked up Helloween, to be honest. Andi Deris attemps live on stage are truly shite. Nevertheless its kinda sad how Michael Kiske earns credit in almost every great Avantasia song and just ruins it with his shitty voice.
You don't know shit about Helloween, neither about Avantasia, keep your opinions for yourself, specially cocky opinions where you assume to know everything and overlook above everyone else, the more you know the more you understand there's nothing that you know, and is not an Avantasia reference, is a true fact.
Why state your opinions as facts? Angry comments can be avoided by just saying "I don't like Michael Kiske's voice/personality." I don't know him enough to comment on his personality like you do, but I sure know that I enjoy him 5000% more in power metal tracks than Tobi who is trying and failing at singing high notes.
You're partially right imo, Michael Kiske is a way better live performer than Tobias Sammet. But for the recordings I'm not able to get how Michael Kiske appears in every great song and just moans it to pieces and just a small minority is disappointed. Anyway, his voice has nothing to do with his personality; this just adds it up for me.
I'm curious where I stated my opinion as a fact though.
"This band would be way better without Michael Kiske - everyone loves him, but his voice is such an unbelievably annoying noise in my ears - despite him being a good singer; he destroys almost every song (except Ghostlights, I'm okay with this one)."
Honestly I would not blame you for that because he is not in the same league as Michael Kiske. I listened to Kiske live with Avantasia and he was by far the best of all of them. In momeents his voice was too good to be true. I guess you are one of those guys who think that they know everything but you are so wrong. i can not explain you why you are wrong becuse your opinion is based on your poor knowledge and experience. As Baltazar Gracian said 500 years ago there is something caled divine taste. The more you know the more you can get close to it. You my son have a long road to get there i see.
I've seen Michael Kiske live too for several times and I still admit that he's a good vocalist. The fact that I just don't like his voice itself has nothing to do with kind of a divine taste imo; I do not claim to know everything as well. Claiming so is complete bullshit and I have to say that it's kinda amusing to read how everyone goes mad because one do not like one of those 'gods' from the power metal genre. Besides, saying that a opinion is worthless or inferior due to supposing how it has been formed must be the greatest bollocks I've heard in a while. Opinions, especially in musical taste, do not need to be justified in any way. You can discuss about opinions, you do not have to comphrehend ones opinion, but you cannot insinuate shit to someone because of a opinion you don't agree to.
