Does anyone know the name of that bell-like instrument we hear all over the soundtrack? I love the sound and want to listen to more music with it. It sounds like a gamelan but I would like to know more.
what makes the soundtrack special is its deep integration with the events of the game. the composer worked closely with the dev team to make the music react to specific events that the player enacts, or particular places he/she visits; it's not just blandly looping short musical pieces like other games do--the score is almost as much of a character as the journeyman is.
Journey has the most overrated soundtrack of the year. It has its moments, but a good deal of it is just noodling around a with simple theme and some meandering ambiance. It seems like people just feel some kind of obligation to give this game credit for more than it actually did. It's a cool experience, but it's nothing revolutionary. And what is with this man's fixation on plucked string instruments (not just in the Journey soundtrack).
Journey is one of the greatest stories I've ever experienced, conveyed entirely without words. If you have access to a PS3, definitely give it a look. (And serious kudos on the soundtrack that made it possible!)
