Aurelio Virgiliano was a theorist of Italian music of the late Renaissance and early Baroque period. Aurelio Virgiliano is known for his treatise of music, the Dolcimelo, which is extant in an incomplete manuscript. Biographical information concerning the author is missing.

This document in Italian does not have a specific date, but it would seem that it dates from the end of the 16th century, or from the very beginning of the 17th century. According to the watermarks, some date the document between 1589 and 1625 .

The Dolcimelo is composed of three books:

Libro Primo. Dove so contengono i Passaggi da farsi with the voce, e con ogni kind of musical instrumento
Libro Secondo. Dove if contengono Ricercate fiorite; e Madrigali, con cannon diminished, per sonar vagamente con ogni sort of Instrumento
Libro Terzo. Dove if contengono tutti modi da sonar qualsivoglia Instrumento; The Accordi Accordion, tanto in concerto, quanto separati
