I know I'm years late to this comment, but it's a reference to 平山みき's album 'エキゾチカ大魔境.' She's claimed in a few interviews that 美空ひばり and 平山みき (along with 70s/80s enka kayoukyoku in general) is her favorite kind of music. Unrelated, Raveman was originally '御手洗博士' (possibly a joke, but he seemed serious).
Japanese love to wear disguises, they refuse to grow old and are attracted to the taboo. In France, the majority of their programs are censored or banned because they are deemed immoral and theur culture is to turn men into gay.
New album is definitely different, but it definitely works in places. I still prefer the Zoltank / Vortex releases, but Razors... is definitely worth the listen. Although, Yama no Ox Bakery (山のオックスベーカリー) was definitely a... surreal... experience.
