Biography

  • Founded In

Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, United States

Not just another band from the Chicago Suburbs. August Premier has focused their talents to produce a sound that brings many influential styles to their peek. AP has already launched their first CD entitled “Balloons…Everything’s OK,” on Little League Records, and gotten their touring “feet” wet with a 2 week tour in the summer of ’01 with Drive Thru Records artist Allister. Their sound blends dark, mysterious lyrics and rhythms with timely, catchy hooks and choruses. August Premier has found a great assembly of rock and emotion. Songs like “Radiant” and “Tuckered Out” best display August Premier’s blend of sounds. August Premier came together in the summer of 2000. Mark and Chris were in a pop-punk band called "Cut-to-Fit". While on the other side of the town Mickey and Danny were rocking out in thier suto-hardcore band called "Slag". Niether bands fitting thier musical needs the started to fall apart. So Mark and Chris came to Mickey and Danny looking to start a new band. August Premier is born. All four of them started writing songs and rehearsing as much as possible. As soon as they had a set of song's they were happy with the started playing shows. Played everywhere they could college parties…battle of the bands..local shows..leading up to opening for bands like Alkaline Trio, ShowOff, Sig Transit Gloria, Allister and Lucky Boy's Confusion. This helped them get a large following in the Chicagoland area. August Premier is comprised of four dedicated musicians. On rhythm guitar and most vocals is Chris Rogner. Danny Halminiak picks up the rest of the vocals, as well as back-ups, and jams out on lead guitar. Mark Halminiak holds the bass guitar while rocking in his own special way. Last ,but not least, Mickey Molinari plays drums with a vengeance, with crazy fills and unbelievable beats. Individually they are four talented musicians. Together, they work to bring their music to a new level.

March 27th,2012 came the release of Happy Miserable album.

The Style: If you're familiar with August Premier than Happy Miserable is what you get when you combine the raw talent and emotion of August Premier's debut release Balloons…Everything's Okay with the polish and musical skill of their sophomore album Fireworks and Alcohol. If you're a newcomer to AP, than you just need to know that they're a Chicago based Pop Punk act. More specifically, they're one of the primary reasons Chicago continues to be the preeminent spot for Pop Punk in this country.

The Story: The arc of August Premier's career perfectly depicts life and the peaks and valleys associated with our finite time spent together. For example, AP started out emotionally driven and wildly ambitious with their debut indie release, Balloons…Everything's Okay. Through unguided dedication, AP eventually climbed the industry ladder and secured a spot on the quasi-major, Fueled By Ramen Records. The move eventually led to their sophomore release Fireworks and Alcohol, which was an incredibly polished but somewhat hollow milestone that was tarnished by an anticlimactic conclusion to their arduous journey to popularity.

The similarities between life and the goals we strive for are never more evident then at this very moment in AP's existence. That's because we all eventually learn that the celebration of our achievements should never be about reaching the pinnacle of our career or the apex of our life. The joy should be discovered in the journey to get to the summit.

As the saying goes, what goes up must come down. The ensuing descent and subsequent slump led to the disbanding of AP. Throughout the better part of the next decade the various members established several side projects, which led to an increase in maturity, musical skill and most of all, life experience. This collection of worldliness evolved into a slow and steady climb back up the proverbial mountain.

Now instead of the haphazard attempt to ascend to the top of the musical game. AP has resurfaced with the intention of concentrating on maintaining a slow and steady ascent while staying focused on the path that is most important. The path of contentedness with the idea that they will enjoy the moment more than the climax. Because as we'll all slowly come to realize with time and experience, life's about friends, family and the support of those around us. Not necessarily the places our success takes us.

Overall it doesn't matter why AP fell from their lofty perch but what I do know is you can't be happy without experiencing what the miserable side of life has to offer. August Premier confronted this very issue and turned the experience in to a new project and a new beginning.
