Growing out of a project between guitarist, Freddy Reish, keyboardist, Dashel Thompson, and John Bosson (of Mershak), upon the exit of Bosson, Thompson and Reish continued writing.

Atta Boy began to coalesce upon the introduction of vocalist, Eden Brolin when, one day, she accompanied Thompson & Reish to Rancho Park. Upon witnessing a uncountably large murder of crows, they decided upon the title of their first song, the unreleased demo, "Crows".

Shortly thereafter, Reish was at Sunset Junction, where he ran into drummer, Lewis Pullman. On their way to different shows, they greeted, parted ways & encountered each other later than night during a set by Ghostland Observatory. Discussing the dissolution of Pullman's previous band, Animal Husbandry, Reish commented that Thompson, Brolin, and he were currently in the process of writing new material.

Pullman invited the group over to his house for what amounted to the one, and only, official practice of Atta Boy with all four members present.

During that rehearsal, three songs were immediately written, including "Boxes" off the debut EP.

From that promising start, Atta Boy set a precedent for delivering concise, startling bursts of creative output in the midst of busy schedules; Reish & Brolin writing "Lullaby" one evening instead of doing homework, Thomspon & Reish solidifying "Those Days" & "Boxes" in their repetoire, and "Paper Trail" came into being the day before tracking the EP. Pullman hadn't even performed two of the EP tracks until already in the studio.

After a whirlwind recording session at Paramount Studios, leaving at 2am, Thompson & Reish rushed out of town on weeklong trip, and Pullman departed for the East coast during their absence.

In a series of brief meetings & exchanges at every opportunity, the various members continued writing and tracking over the subsequent months, culminating in the release of of their debut EP on February 21st, 2012.
