1) Astral Tomb is a death metal band from Denver, Colorado. They follow the topics of space, death and esoteric phenomena. The sound also parallels the psychedelic progressive style of Death Metal that their city-mates Blood Incantation used to create a new wave of Death Metal that had its success far beyond the underground death metal scene. One could argue that Astral Tomb are one of the first bands that could be considered an offspring of that very success.
2) Astral Tomb is a prolific electronic music and performance art project focused on creating an unforgettable audio/visual experience. Live shows are always partially improvised and reliant on the performers ability to feed off of the crowd, unifying the energies of all parties, incorporating heady lighting, fire eating, and interpretive dance. The studio efforts are a sonic companion for the listeners own interpretation, meditation, out of body and hallucinogenic experiences, etc. The sounds are intended to be heard primarily as the sonic equivalent of a shamanic journey. Whether lying naked in a dark room or dancing ecstatically, the listener is encouraged to openly access a dimension between sleep and the waking state, to go deeper within and further out of mind and body. The music is made with mostly vintage and modified analog equipment, so there is a an inescapable echo of familiar 'retro' synth sounds, but there is also a strong emphasis on being radically present in the moment, as majority of the music is created in a deep trance-like state with focused improvisational aesthetics. Astral Tomb's sound has been described as 'cosmic trance rituals for multi-dimensional consciousness' and the influences and compositional techniques are received from other dimensions and heightened states of awareness.
