I've been researching the "tech death" genre and find most of the bands to sound kind of soulless because they're overly focused on the tech parts. Then I heard "Relentless Mutation" and was all like "wtf". Not only does it sound super-technical, even compared to other bands in the genre, but it's also extremely memorable, rippin', raw and most of all - organic. The production really gives it the life a lot of their peers are lacking. Very impressive!
Can only continue to echo the praise for Relentless Mutation, but in addition I implore fans of the album who may not have yet done so look up the lyrics. The Genius website gives a great opening breakdown on the lore of The Drip and AUM referenced throughout the record... it would seem in addition to the amazing instrumental prowess that this record's lyrics were penned beautifully with a manic brilliance
Am I the only one not particularly impressed by the new album? The songs are less memorable and catchy than on The Lucid Collective, are constantly interrupted by melodic noodling and overall more chuggy.
Reviewed Relentless Mutation here, an album which conclusively demonstrates that you really can have both dazzling technical skill and detailed, memorable songwriting. Oh, and some brutal slams too. http://metalvoid.com/2017/10/09/archspire-push-tech-death-limit-relentless-mutation/
I've been drifting away from tech death lately because so many bands in that genre just started to sound the same but god damn this new album fucking destroys! Some of the best stuff I've heard all year.
Casually decided to try Relentless Mutation, it really feels like their songwriting has caught up to their playing abilities! Quite manic and dense, with logical progressions and a bit more melodic playing on the leads.
As a fan of death metal for years and getting into rap recently, still not sure how I feel about their vocalist. He's immensely talented, that's for damn sure, but at the speed he growls it's hard to make out the lyrics. Interesting vocal style for sure, helps them stand out from the crowd.
dude usually when i love a band/album and cant make out the lyrics, i give i a few listens while reading the lyrics to get the feels and shit.
but in this case i cant even read the lyrics fast enough LOL
