“I’ve always sung on my records in one-way or another, usually as a texture, and sometimes as a different character. This character is kind of androgynous and creepy to me, which is great because the setting in my mind is 1950’s Americana, which I find creepy as fuck.”
The video for the song, directed by Christian Moeller touches the topic of self-confidence and happiness, or a lack of it and how people show a facade of being more happy and self-confident than they really are. It also applies to women who are often directed to smile. Six women are challenged to hold a sincere smile for an hour and the video shows different points of that journey.
