Electro indie four piece Acusis was formed by Michael Tarrant (vocals, guitar) and Marc Bernard (drums) in 2003. Tarrant and Bernard began making music as teenagers in a garage to combat the boredom and frustration of growing up in a sleepy seaside resort more famous for its rock candy than its rock music.
In 2006 they decided they had better form a ‘proper band’, Acusis, named after a medical term meaning ‘the ability to perceive sound’. Lyrics, borne out of the observations and frustrations of a small town, are set to a mixture of guitar, drums and electronica that makes up the band’s distinctive sound.
The evolution of Acusis has seen the pair expand to form a four-piece, writing and releasing their own material and playing all over the UK and Canada.
In 2008 Acusis gained two new permanent members, Glenn McAndrew and Adam Firman, found “wandering around the music scene”. Originally drafted in for a Halloween gig, Glenn on bass and Adam to experiment with performing the electro element of the tracks live, both impressed to the point they became permanent fixtures.
Following the release of the band’s first single, Dancefloors and Cocktails, 2009 sees the launch of Acusis’ first album in Japan, Seaside backchat, which the band will travel to Japan to launch in early 2010.
